So; what about salt?

Let’s take a look at something that we all use every day, or wish we could use on a regular basis and that is salt.

There are those who love to use a lot of salt, and those who want just a pinch of salt on their food.  Unfortunately, there are some folks that cannot have it at all and are told to stay away from it completely.

When you cook with salt, you can really tell is the salt was not added to the water, as whatever you cook will have the bland taste to it.

However; the kind of salt that I want to share with you today is available to everyone. I am not talking about using salt, but becoming salt.

For those who have become a Believer (someone who has asked Christ to pardon their sins), He instructs us to become the salt of the earth. Look at what the Scripture says.

Matthew 5:13 (NIV) "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

So with that in mind; let’s see what being the “Salt of the earth” does.

If we are His Disciples, then our character should be like salt; here is what I mean.
·         Salt is distinctive; just as salt is different from what it is placed on; the Believer is to be different from the world
·         Salt preserves; it keeps things from going bad and decaying. It cleanses and disinfects. Believers, just as salt, are to cleanse and preserve the world
·         Salt penetrates; it inserts a new quality, substance, and life. It changes that upon which it is put. Believers are likewise to penetrate the world and insert a new life into it.
·         Salt flavors; It influences the taste of things. Believers are to so flavor and influence the world for Jesus Christ
·         Salt is quiet; It is visible, but it works silently, making no noise. Believers, the salt of the earth, are to work quietly and discreetly
·         Salt spreads; A Believer’s salt spreads far and wide
·         Salt is irrepressible; Once applied, it cannot be stopped. A Believer’s salt, his testimony of what God has done in his/her life, is irrepressible; it cannot be stopped
So to wrap it all up; to be able to spread salt, you must have; that is; you must come to a point of asking Jesus Christ into your heart and to forgive you of your sins, and therefore become a disciple of His, and start spreading the salt of His Word.
